French safety forces are stepping up efforts to regain management of New Caledonia, a French Pacific archipelago, amidst ongoing and lethal unrest. Using armored automobiles and development tools, they’ve dismantled almost 60 barricades on the vital RT1 freeway, which hyperlinks the capital, Nouméa, to La Tontouta worldwide airport.
